A short distance from Vryna is Agios Ioannis, a picturesque village surrounded by dense vegetation next to the “Mavromatis” water reservoir. The village church is famous for its holy spring, which provides water to the fountain in the village square. There is also a 60-bed guesthouse and a restaurant serving traditional appetizers.
Visitors can stay at the village guesthouse, refresh themselves at the fountain in the square, admire the landscape and walk along lush trails, visit the Upper Holy Monastery of Xenia, explore the Mavromatis Gorge and reservoir, enjoy traditional appetizers, and have coffee at the guesthouse restaurant.
It is located about 20 kilometers from the National Road and, since January 2001, has been a Local Community of the Municipality of Almyros, with approximately 75 inhabitants.
