A picturesque seaside settlement of Sourpi, identified as Byzantine through excavations and incidental findings.
It is a small bay on the southwestern coast of the Pagasetic Gulf, at the foot of Mount Chlomos. It has a very picturesque harbor, bordered to the east by Cape Glaros. The beach is shallow, ideal for children to swim. Nies is built within a lush green area, while to the west stretches the olive grove of Sourpi, with approximately 200,000 olive trees.
According to tradition, Achilles set sail from Nies with his fleet for the Trojan Expedition.
