Archaeological Site of Fylaki

The archaeological site of Fylaki is located 2.5 km east of the village of the same name. Fylaki is mentioned by Homer in the Iliad. Its founder was King Fylakos, succeeded on the throne by his son Ifiklos, father of the hero of the Trojan War and Thessalian king Protesilaus. The first settlements in the area date back to the Neolithic period, around 5,000 B.C. The prehistoric settlement of Fylaki continued to be inhabited during the Bronze Age and later historical periods. On a hill, few remains of ancient fortifications are preserved.
